skid steer dust extractor

Our trading partners, Grydale, are committed to creating a dust free environment for industrial workers by continually innovating efficient and effective dust collection solutions. Using their expertise in dust control they have developed and patented a dust control solution for Skid Steer units operating multi-functional and rotary broom attachments to provide effective dust control at the source, without the use of water.

Skid steer and PosiTrack loaders are often used on infrastructure projects both above and below ground and potentially generate hazardous silica dust from the ground that poses a risk to construction workers. The onboard dust control solution is an auxiliary system that can be used on any skid steer/Posi-Track loader. The onboard dust extraction system consists of flexible and solid ducting which runs between the negative air pressure sweeper and the dust control unit, mounted at the rear of the loader.

The dust control unit features a twin-stage axial fan (powered by an electric or hydraulic motor), fan diverter, patented dual SpinX separators to discharge heavy particles from the incoming air stream, floating filter frame, panel filter, hopper with slide gate discharge. The support frame has been designed to fit any make and model of skid steer or Posi-Track loader.

Key features

The onboard dust collection solution consists of the following key components:

  • Negative air pressure sweeper - the negative air pressure sweeper houses a rotary brush with enclosed sides and two 200mm diameter spigots which allow ducting to be attached.
  • Heavy particle clean out grates – heavy particles are captured in grates on the top of the sweeper house to avoid blockages in the duct run and to improve filter life. These can be easily cleaned using the quick release mechanism.
  • Ducting – Flexible and solid ducting is used to join the NAPS and dust control unit. Flexible ducting ensures the system is operational while manoeuvring and operating on site, while solid ducting reduces the pressure loss across the system.
The dust control unit, mounted at the rear of the loader features:
  • Axial fan - a twin-stage axial fan is powered by an electric or hydraulic motor. The axial fan can be run in reverse to act as a filter cleaning device.
  • SpinX separators - patented dual SpinX separators have been designed to operate at functional duct air velocity to separate the heavier dust particles from the incoming air stream – increasing filter life and effectiveness. During reverse operation cleaning, the SpinX does not spin, blocking the inlets which allows back pressure to be built up in the system allowing the filter to be cleaned efficiently.
  • Floating filter frame - housing the panel filter, cover plate and suspension springs. The filter frame is located in the main dust control unit and seals itself ensuring all air passes through the filter panel.
  • Panel filter - the panel filter is a specific shape to follow the geometry of the dust collection unit housing which is design to assist air flow into the axial fan.
  • Hopper - the hopper is used to collect dust particles after they are released from the panel filter.
  • Slide gate - a manually actuated slide gate is used to empty the hopper onto the ground or any collection point.
  • Support frame - designed for the specific machine the dust collection unit is mounting to, the support frame features a pivot point and gas struts so the dust control unit can be tilted away from the rear of the loader to enable essential maintenance of the machine to be performed.
  • Fan diverter - used to direct axial fan exhaust away from the ground.

Control and monitoring instrumentation

The onboard dust collection system includes CANbus instrumentation to allow the system to be controlled from within the loader cabin. Instrumentation includes:

  • Reverse camera - so the operator can reverse safely when any existing reverse camera is blocked by dust control unit.
  • Flood light - positioned on the back of the dust control unit for maximum visibility.
  • Operation light - a green light is positioned on the unit to indicate that the dust control is operational.
  • Reverse clean - the reverse clean cycle can be turned on by on operator via a push button.
  • Forward motion sensor - activates the system when the machine is moving forward and stops the system when the unit is stationary (if required).
  • Battery isolator - to isolate the battery when not in use to preserve battery life and for safety.
  • Hopper capacity light - illuminates when the hopper reaches capacity to alert the operator that it needs to be emptied.
  • Differential pressure gauge - to indicate if there is a blockage in the duct run.
  • Solar panel - to trickle charge the battery when not in use.

Simple installation - self-install or we'll install for you

We have designed the onboard Skid Steer Dust Extraction solution so that it can be easily self installed using the detailed assembly instruction manual. Alternatively we can install the system at our facilities or our site service team can install at your workplace.

The onboard dust extraction solution can be easily operated and maintained by loader operators using the comprehensive documentation provided. Quick release mechanisms have been used to support rapid maintenance and material discharge.
